Fourth PHASA Conference 2009, Durban
Millennium Development Goals: Measuring Progress in Public Health in South Africa

PHASA Chair, Prof. Laetitia Rispel, welcomed delegates to the 2009 PHASA Conference in Durban. The theme, Millennium Development Goals: Measuring Progress in Public Health in South Africa, indicated the three-fold purpose of the conference: to identify why the MDG goals were off-track; to look at focus areas highlighted by the goals and see where they could be put right; and to find ways of monitoring future progress to achieving the goals.
Amongst the 300 registered delegates, 14 African Health Associations were represented. She hoped that the PHASA Conference would lead to new partnerships and strengthen existing partnerships in delegates from different countries and organisations and fields of public health interest.
